pH neutralisation

pH neutralisation

Why a pH neutralisation system?

With our pH neutralisation plant, we ensure compliance with the pH limits for wastewater from a wide range of industrial sectors specified by the authorities or required by the customer. All acidic and alkaline wastewater is neutralised in a fully automatic process and then fed into the sewage system or returned to the process.

Individually planned pH neutralisation systems

The planning, manufacture and installation of suitable wastewater neutralisation systems takes into account the respective wastewater volumes and customer-specific requirements.

Main components of an AJF pH neutralisation system

  • sewage collection tank
  • pH value determination
  • Reaction vessel with CO2 dosing
  • Final pH check
  • Control system for fully automatic operation
  • Pre- and post-filtration, if required

The systems can optionally be installed in a container, making them mobile and plug-and-play.

Why does wastewater from the concrete industry need to be neutralised?

When washing out the residual concrete that is produced in ready-mixed concrete and precast concrete plants, active cement therefore has a highly alkaline value of up to 12 and higher.

Before wastewater can be discharged into the local sewage system, it must have a pH value of 6.5–9.5. This is regulated by the Wastewater Ordinance. The wastewater should therefore have a neutral value.

How does the neutralisation of wastewater using CO2 work?

Alkaline waste water can generally be neutralised by adding acids. CO2 combines with water to form carbonic acid, which neutralises the alkaline water in various chemical steps. Neutralisation using carbon dioxide (CO₂) is very well suited for residual concrete wastewater, as the CO₂ and its buffer system with water make incorrect dosing virtually impossible. The use of carbon dioxide as a neutralising agent is also an environmentally friendly solution, as it does not produce any harmful substances.

Advantages of the AJF pH neutralisation system

AJF’s PH neutralisation systems can be manufactured for you as both stationary systems and mobile systems in a container, making them extremely versatile for use in locations such as prefabricated component factories or construction sites. Neutralisation is also fully automated and can be individually adjusted to the water requirements.
